Clara May
Wood Ship Kit

The Clara May was built at Plymouth harbour and launched in 1891. It was a typical west coast of England trading ketch which could enter and easily manoeuver in all kinds of harbours for loading and unloading of merchandise directly on the pier. At first, it carried a polacre rigging which was later changed to a ketch rigging, by which name it is known. In 1926 its rigging was reduced and it had a 2 cylinder 50 CV semidiesel engine installed. The Clara May remainded in service till 1953

Fine quality, high tech, precision-cut woods are included for the kit construction: Plywood, Samba, Mukali, Walnut, Sapele, Boxwood. Plank on bulkhead construction. Brass hardware: eyebolts, rings, hawse-holes, pins, hinges, bell, cog-wheel, battens. Cotton woven cloth sails. Various cast parts including rudder wheel. Wooden trucks, pin racks and deadeyes.

Please note: The manufacturer of this wood kit is based in Spain. Although complete plans and instructions are included, the limited English instructions provided require critical thinking and some modification as needed. This is not a build by numbers kit, and is not for everyone. Additional technique books, and or access to the advice of an experienced wood modeler or wood model club is recommended.
